SBD Wellness Week ‘24 - Talk on Lifestyle Medicine
As part of our Wellness Week ‘24 activities we hosted a free talk on Lifestyle Medicine with Dr. Gillian Dagg on Wednesday 15th May in HUB17
This was an overview lecture of ‘Lifestyle Medicine’ where some of the core principles of this evidence-based specialty are explored. It is a proactive approach to health care focusing on 6 pillars:
Some key take outs from the talk were…
- Nutrition
- Avoidance of substances of abuse
- Stress
- Physical activity
- Sleep and
- Relationships
Engaging in regular physical activity, such as walking or cycling, is paramount for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Pairing this with proper nutrition, stress management, healthy habits, and sufficient sleep forms the foundation of preventive medicine. Lifestyle Medicine serves as a powerful reminder that sustainable lifestyle choices hold the key to preventing chronic diseases and promoting longevity and overall well-being. By prioritising these elements, individuals can unlock their potential to live longer, healthier lives and enjoy a higher quality of life.
